Ahh, it’s finally starting to become consistently warm outside around here and it feels great! On the whole, it’s generally still a bit chilly for the most part, but the warm days are becoming far more frequent, so we’re definitely on the upswing. And since it was so nice out this evening I decided to grab my new camera and go out for a little drive and maybe some pics. The result is what you see above. I still have my winters on because the mornings are still a bit too cold for summers, but I expect to be swapping them out within the next month or so.
Speaking of new cameras, from this post on almost all photos will be from my new Canon 6D, plus the occasional film shot here and there. I guess unless you’re a photographer/camera nerd this means very little, but for those of you that are interested I thought I’d mention it. The 6D is taking over duties from my previous Panasonic G9 which I’ve used since I started this blog. Now, some of you are probably like, “Why did you buy such and old camera like the 6D? Those are from over 10 years ago.” The answer is very simple – I wanted to get back into full-frame shooting again, but didn’t want to spend a ton of money for a current model right now. In the case of the 6D, I actually had one for a short while back when they were new and really liked it, but eventually let it go because I was primarily a Nikon shooter and didn’t want to pay to expand into another system. Always kinda regretted letting it go though because it had a lot of good points. Fast forward to today, and it turns out I was lucky enough to find one in literally near new condition for only $499, which is a steal in my mind. What it gained me over the G9 was a full frame sensor with the exact same resolution (both are 20MP bodies) and significantly better high ISO performance. It also gets me back into shooting with an optical viewfinder again, which I prefer although I have no complaints about EVFs at all; both have their pros and cons, I just like opticals a bit more. I also feel the auto-focus is a little more accurate and reliable over the G9’s, despite the 6D having a somewhat simplistic AF setup. In any case, despite its age, the 6D does its job exceedingly well if I keep up my end of the bargain, and the images are still very competitive with most current cameras, so I can do what I need for only $499 instead of $2-3,000. Here’s a photo of the new camera from the eBay listing. As you can see, it’s basically in new condition.
