Hello friends, I hope you survived the winter unscathed and are enjoying the start of summer. It’s been a while since I’ve posted here, but I’ve been really busy lately with work and other hobbies, plus I haven’t done anything new to the BRZ yet, so not much to post. That said, I’ve recently come across an issue that I feel is important and want to take a short moment to alert you to it.
A few days back, I came across a Reddit post in r/GR86 that brought a potentially serious issue to light – namely that the poster had found that one of the fuel lines in his GR86 was being worn down from rubbing on possibly another line and became concerned that it could potentially wear through and cause a leak and fire. Obviously, not good. In his post, he asked if there were any other owners with similar damage and if so, to post details about their cars so that he could build up a data set of incidents to share with Subaru and Toyota. In an effort to contribute to the post and also out of concern, I checked my BRZ and sure enough, it’s worn pretty good, as you can see in the photo above. It’s so worn in fact, that there seem to be inner cords starting to show. That’s kinda scary, so I’m going to take it to Subaru and have them look at it and to have it replaced, preferably under warranty.
In my opinion, I don’t think the line is wearing on another line as much as I think it’s a bit tall and is rubbing on the hood. It’s just speculation, but the other fuel lines aren’t really close at all nor do they show any signs of wear. In any case, after reading this I hope all of you check your cars as well and have any damage you find repaired as soon as possible. The reddit poster also makes a suggestion regarding wrapping the line with abrasion-proof tape to add durability, which I will do to the new line once it’s installed. For the record, my car has a bit over 22k miles on it currently. Take care my friends!
